Which
Refrigerator best meets your needs?
Refrigerators range from around 9 cubic feet to more than 32
cubic feet for built in models. The refrigerators space is typically divided
into two-thirds of fresh food space and one-third reserved for the freezer.
Typically there are five different styles of refrigerators to choose from.
Top-mount Refrigerators
These two door models feature a freezer above the refrigerator and have the
capacity to store frozen foods at about 0 degrees. Economy priced units feature
one door and have a short-term frozen food storage compartment. The average
dimensions range from 23.5"-36" in width, Depths run from 28"-33",
height range from 59"-69"
Bottom-mount Refrigerators
These units have the freezer compartment located below the refrigerator. The
size of the units are limited due to low volume manufacturing. Bottom-mount
Refrigerators have similar dimensions as top-mount refrigerators. Sizes range
from 33" width, 32"-35" depth, 69"-70" height. Bottom-mounts
are convenient for refrigerated foods with easy access to refrigerated foods.
They do require enough space to have the full-width doors swing open.
Side-by-Side Refrigerators
These units have a full-height freezer next to the refrigerator unit, with
a separate door to access each unit. The dimensions start at 31"- 36"
width, 28"- 34" depths and heights range from 67"- 70".
These units are taller than the top-mounts. These units have a convenient
height for refrigerated foods. Ice and water
dispensers are available on most units. These units do require a wider space
than the top or bottom mounts.
Flush Freestanding Refrigerators
These refrigerators are made to fit flush in a compartment, with a decorative
trim and molding option. This design saves space and has an assortment of
luxury features. The depth of the unit is about 24" wide, the same width
and height of conventional units.
Built-in Refrigerators
These units are custom made and feature electronic controls with separate
freezer and refrigerator systems. The whole unit with doors measures about
24" deep. Height and width are variable.
